This part requires a bit of firewall tuning to open a port up, and in my case I have a personal domain which meant I had to manually enter the connection info, but it shouldn’t be too hard if you have experience with firewalls. Installing and connecting the mobile app is simple enough – you just enter part of your license key to pull your remote IP address and enter a user name and password. And then, for me at least (apparently this little gem has been around for almost 3 years!) I discovered the Blue Iris Mobile App (available for iPhone and Android), and it got even better. In fact, the application got even better since that original post with the release of Blue Iris 4.0, adding neat features like a timeline to the view.

Also, while a "little" bit of information is collected, it's really nothing they don't already know.I’ve called the Blue Iris desktop application a “ must-have for Foscam security cameras owners“, and while I wasn’t happy with a broken firmware setting in the cameras, I still highly recommend the combination. NOT meant to be a Google advertisement, but an instance of a way to make the $10 BI app less painful. Over time I've accumulated over $250 in play credit that I've used. but doing this periodically makes me much more willing to occasionally download a paid app. At the end you get varying amounts of Play credit, only good for apps, music, in-app purchases, etc. No survey has taken me more than a minute.

All of this is something like "did you recently search for XYZ", if yes, were the search results to your satisfaction, done. It could also ask questions based on your browsing habits or youtube viewing. It might be based on a store you recently went to, did you pay with cash/debit/credit, would you be willing to show your receipt***. It does monitor your location, as with everything else on your phone, but will ask you periodical surveys that really ask for nothing specific. If you're on the Android EcoSystem however, I highly recommend the Google "Opinion Rewards" app. Fortunately it is a "Family" eligible app so you can pay once and load on a spouse's phone, etc (unless they use the other "App Store"). I was surprised at the app price as well but yes, it is the official app.
